CCAN Action Fund is joining forces with LubDub Theatre Company for an evening of arts and action. Featuring music, magic, dance, and drama by award-winning artists, this one-night-only engagement will support CCAN’s “Fight to Vote Campaign”—mobilizing resources and renewing our shared resolve to advance climate action and defeat Donald Trump.
Named for the stethographic sounds of a heartbeat, LubDub Theatre Company tells stories of science, magic, and myth. Currently in residence at Off-Broadway’s Theatre Row, the company is generating new, interdisciplinary work around the climate crisis. For this special evening with CCAN, LubDub will present performances by magician Geoff Kanick (Drama Desk Award-Winning Queen of the Night), dancer-choreographer Mayte Natalio (Love in Hate Nation), and playwright Miranda Rose Hall (Plot Points in Our Sexual Development), who will read an excerpt from her new piece A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction—premiering at Baltimore Center Stage in 2021. The event will also feature original music by Ciggy, aka Richard Trent (winner of NPR’s 2016 Tiny Desk Contest).
It’s time to summon all of our efforts to oppose the extraordinary threats facing American democracy and the health of the planet. While we gather to celebrate the inspiring and healing power of the arts, we look forward to sharing the ways that you can help us make the biggest impact on this election in its final stretch. We’re inspired by the legacy and words of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg: “Fight for the things you care about. But do it in a way that leads others to join you.” COVID-19 has made joining difficult; we miss coming together in homes and concert halls and theaters—but we’ll keep finding new ways to fight together at this moment of deep urgency and real potential for change. We invite you to join us—safely—in this opportunity to connect with one another through the arts and to reaffirm that we are not alone.
Your contributions matter now more than ever. With your support, we look forward to getting this country back on track. And we look forward to being with you in the audience on October 11 for this very special event.
This event will take place on Zoom. Closed Captioning is available for this event.
