We gave it our all this year, but in the end the Maryland legislature did not pass the “Climate Solutions Now” Act.
While we are very disappointed and upset that our lawmakers failed to pass this necessary legislation, we’re thankful that two of the most important parts of the bill survived. Thanks to Chairman Paul Pinsky, the legislature passed a bill that will plant five million trees, and invest two thirds of the money to plant those trees in urban, historically redlined or economically disadvantaged communities. He also shepherded through a bill requiring the state to buy all electric buses. Let’s keep that momentum going into 2022.
Please email your legislators about these bills. It’ll only take a minute. We want Maryland’s leaders to know that while we’re disappointed that “Climate Solutions Now” failed, we’re thankful that other critical bills passed and are ready for bold climate action in the future.
