The “Inflation Reduction Act'' has 24 times more good stuff to fight climate change than bad stuff to help fossil fuels. The Senate should pass the bill now and then reject a separate bill in September that would help build the MVP for fracked gas transport.

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA), now headed to the Senate floor would help cut U.S. emissions up to 40% by 2030 while creating 1.4 million new jobs. It would expand the U.S. economy by nearly one full percentage point, mostly through domestic manufacturing for wind and solar components. And by cleaning our air it would avoid 100,000 asthma cases per year and up to 3,900 premature deaths annually, mostly in communities of color.

Please pick up your phone and tell your Senators to vote YES for the IRA. Tell them to also work this week to remove bad features of the bill like opening more US land and water to drilling. While this bill as written does 24 times more good than bad for the climate, we must still fight for better.

Most concerning, the US House and Senate leaders have agreed to vote on a separate bill in September that would facilitate construction of the Mountain Valley pipeline from West Virginia to Virginia and on the overseas markets. THIS PIPELINE IS UNACCEPTABLE TO CCAN ACTION FUND. Tell your Senators to vote NO on this second bill.
