It's been weeks since Trump and his allies in Congress started the government shutdown after refusing to negotiate a bipartisan funding package they knew they needed in March. Instead of protecting 15 million American’s healthcare, the Trump Administration has unleashed a wave of attacks by firing about 4,200 federal workers, plannig to furlough 90% of EPA staff, and cancelling over $8 billion in clean energy investments in so-called "blue states." Callously, the Trump administration gleefully bragged this is only the beginning by calling the shutdown an "unprecedented opportunity.”
Americans will pay the price for this shutdown.
Our Congress members must return to the negotiation table, end this shutdown, and implement guardrails to restrict the Administration from withholding or spending funds in ways that are very different from Congress’s intent.
