Right now, legislation to bring more affordable solar energy to Maryland is gaining momenturm. It's called the Affordable Solar Act and it would incentivize the building of solar projects while keeping costs low. It's about to be heard in a key hearing so YOUR legislators need to hear your support!

As your constituent, I am emailing to ask that you support the Affordable Solar Act (House Bill 345 and Senate Bill 341).

Marylanders need to have lower utility bills, have stable energy costs, and to incentivize the building of solar energy and battery storage to decarbonize our future.

This legislation is an urgent fix that has been under development for a long time. In 2023, Maryland passed the Brighter Tomorrow Act, a short-term bridge to ensure rooftop and community solar continued to be built, with a commitment to fully reform Maryland’s solar program in the future. This bill will ensure we maximize solar deployment and protect ratepayers by:

1) Setting up a process at the PSC to conduct competitive procurements for utility scale solar and establish incentive prices for rooftop and community solar that are regularly updated
2) Empowers renters, low-income families, and people facing other barriers to have access to affordable solar by allowing plug-in solar.
