Right now, there is a bad bill that is gaining momentum in the Senate: SB 26. This bill allows any company, specifically data centers, to avoid any accountability or regulations for on-site power production. We need to fight back!

As your constituent, I'm writing to urge you to prevent the language from SB 26 being added to any of the energy bills that are moving this legislative session. This bill is bad for people, communities, and all of the progress that we have made on power generation regulations in Maryland.

This bill would exempt all new power plants from environmental regulations if they are built on the same location as the data center they are powering. It:

- Prevents communities from having any input on on-site generation in the state
- Encourages data centers to build on-site power plants using the worse, most polluting energy sources including trash incineration, chicken waste, coal, diesel, jet fuel
- Can be used to build mini-power plants of any type, for any purpose (including ICE facilities) 
- Allows these polluting facilities to be constructed anywhere in the state with no government oversight whatsoever

I strongly urge you to oppose SB 26 and do everything you can to make sure its provisions do not become law.
