Clean Energy Now!

Dear Councilmember {contact_data~lastName},

I’m a resident of Washington, DC and am urging you to support Councilmember Allen’s Guiding Renewable Interconnection and Distribution (GRID) Act, which streamlines and strengthens D.C.’s solar interconnection process and expands Washingtonians’ access to the benefits of solar energy!

Energy costs are skyrocketing across the country due to unchecked hyper-scale data center growth, corporate utility greed, and the obstruction of local clean energy. The energy affordability crisis is disproportionately impacting us here in the District as electricity costs have gone up 93% since 2020, outpacing all other states in that time frame. Meanwhile Pepco’s profits have increased by $304 million, a 61% increase in just 5 years.

Local solar, storage, and other community-oriented energy resources can meet our energy needs, make our grid cleaner and more resilient, and reduce costs for all.

The GRID Act’s interconnection reforms, particularly the development of an independent ombuds office and standardized and streamlined interconnection rules, will minimize disputes, limit costly project delays, and provide much needed transparency to solar customers and developers. This strongly complements its plug-in solar provision, which removes antiquated and unnecessary interconnection requirements for small solar systems. These systems meet national safety standards, allow renters, coop dwellers, and others who struggle to access rooftop solar to still enjoy the benefits of solar, and can save participating residents between $110 to $330 per year.

A more streamlined, accessible, and transparent interconnection process for local solar will immediately help reduce our unaffordable power bills.

Please pass the GRID Act and help all Washingtonians benefit from local solar!
